It's awesome that my friends show their support with my food blog whenever we dine out. They'll always leave me the easy but more than oftentimes hard decision of where to eat. Imagine that plus I needed to choose a restaurant inside SM Mall of Asia, I can't choose a restaurant I've tried before, it was already past 8:00PM and our stomachs were growling.
Quick solution, I checked my iPod Touch and checked Facebook Places. How efficient is that right? So I just narrowed down our choices to two, it was either at Jatujak or Abbondanza. I love pizza and pasta as much as my housemates do, but I guess they've had too much pizza office parties already so we went for the former. Did we make the right decision? Stay tuned. :)
For appetizers, we shared an order of their Pomelo Salad. I liked it instantly specially because the pomelo used was on the sweet side. I'm not claiming to be a food connoisseur here, so I'll be honest when I tasted and found out that patis (fish sauce) and pomelo go so well together! I might make my version of this sometime soon.
Shrimp Tom Yum (Medium)
PHP 195.00 or 4.52
When I think of Tom Yum, it reverts me back to the awful day I tried Lucky Me's pathetic attempt at instant Tom Yum noodle soup. So I guess I can blame that experience as to why I've steered clear of ever trying another Tom Yum again, well until our dinner at Jatujak. One spoonful sip later, I was a convert. The real thing wasn't bad at all! Each spoonful bursts with spiciness and the right amount of sourness follows after. I bet I could enjoy this during one of those days when I'm feeling a bit under the weather.
Pork Bagoong (Shrimp Paste) Rice
PHP 160.00 or USD 3.71
Hope you'll pardon the crappy photo, but their Bagoong Rice tastes far better than it looks. We mixed this up real good and it was like I died at every spoonful. The rice was evenly coated with shrimp paste, but it was in no way overpowering to our taste buds, add tasty pork, sliced egg omelette, cucumber and mango slices and it was a feast worth ravishing. We didn't even bother with the calamansi! Obviously, this dish was our star of the night. My house-mates kept on raving about this.
Red Beef Curry
PHP 265.00 or USD 6.14
It was either their Green or Red Curry, but their menu says that only the red variety was spicy so we went for it! I was expecting this to be spicy as hell that was why I opted for bottomless ice tea, but after a spoonful of the red sauce, I realized that they really toned down the spiciness to a safe level. It was good overall with plenty of soft and tasty beef strips, maybe next time I'll just request that they don't hold back on me. I live for spicy food! :)
Chicken Pad Thai
PHP 175.00 or USD 4.05
Compared to My Thai's version, Jatujak's Chicken Pad Thai tastes more "peanutty" and has more sauce. I didn't mind it at all since I love peanuts and slather peanut butter on my bread like crazy on most days. My house-mates weren't so thrilled on the other hand, maybe because we're used to our local pansit being more on the salty side.
My house-mates and I really enjoyed our dinner date at Jatujak. Food was awesome and I'm curious in trying out their other dishes. Service wise, the waiters just need to be a wee bit more attentive to diners asking for drink refills. I'm sure you hate waving to the waiter and raising your glass each time your glass gets empty, but that's just a minor thing. Oh, didn't notice the time, need to get ready for my derm appointment. See you on my next pig out sessions!
