We're gonna eat at Tapa King, we're gonna eat at Tapa King, we are going to eat at Tapa King, NOT! I had been wanting to eat at Tapa King for lunch and the devs agreed with my decision to eat there, but lo and behold, on the way to Tapa King the boys entered the restaurant beside it. *facepalm moment*
We were already inside, so I thought, what the heck, I could still dine at Tapa King the next day, and made peace with the situation. :P
Okoy or Deep-Fried Shrimp Patties
One of the developers ordered this. Though I didn't order one for myself I can safely assume he enjoyed it with the vinegar dip.
Beef With Mushroom
PHP 80.00 or $ 1.85
The viand selection wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Some weren't even that appealing to me, so I ordered beef with mushroom to be on what I thought was a safe side. For PHP80.00, this seemed like highway robbery quantity wise. The taste was good enough, beef needs to be a bit more tender though.
Rellenong Talong or Stuffed Eggplant
PHP 65.00 or $ 1.51
The much coveted rellenong talong, haha! I believe all of us or most of us ordered a piece. We were already paid, seated and starting to eat when the Manager or Officer in Charge admitted their major boo-boo. Apparently, they had ran out of rellenong talong! Don't you just hate it when situations like that which could have been prevented early on, still happened? The devs surely got a bit pissed. It was the dish I enjoyed most. The edges had that evident crunchiness which I love.
Leche Flan
PHP 30.00 or $ 0.69
For my dessert, I opted to go safe and had leche flan.Obviously, this was also overpriced for a tiny piece. I really wanted to enjoy this but the caramelized sugar tasted off, almost acrid to me. I prefer my leche flan sweeter and the caramelized sugar less bitter. I shared what I couldn't finish with our BA and surprisingly he liked it.
Ube Panna Cotta
The choice dessert of one of the devs. Though I didn't get to ask him how he found it, looking at the emptied bowl, I guess I can safely assume that he enjoyed his dessert far better than I did with mine. :)
I don't know about you guys, but for me the term "Lola's Best" would be fitting for a restaurant where all the recipes have been tried and tested through time and are already a sure fire hits to a lot of people. I just don't get that feeling with this restaurant. The cozy and warm ambiance sure is good and very welcoming, but what good is the ambiance if the food can't match up?
Oh well, at least their Carabao number holders were cute, which they claim are made of the actual volcanic ashes from the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption.
Though I don't post my face, Chum's or even my BFF's face in my posts, let this post be a combo breaker and let me introduce you to our Business Analyst, Jim, goofing around with the "paper utensils". Oh, and ever since our first visit to Lola's Best, we haven't gone back, and we aren't looking forward to doing so anytime soon. See you on my next pig out sessions!
