For my second and official send-off celebration, I was thinking of going Japanese. To my officemates and friends, that's probably a given. I had my mind's eye set to Yabu's sinfully enticing Salmon Katsu but Yabu doesn't accept reservations and it always is jam-packed during peak hours. I didn't want my officemates to starve on account of me, so my backup plan was to try out Hokkaido Ramen Santouka based on the decent reviews online.
Small Ramen & Grilled Salmon and Salmon Roe Rice Bowl Set 430.00PHP or 9.95USD. Ramen options include Shio (salt), Shoyu (soy sauce), Miso (soy bean paste). You can also go for Kara-Miso (spicy soy bean paste) for an additional 20.00PHP.
The set also includes side salad, kimchi, chawan mushi and hot tea. Yes, it's my typical case of "takaw tingin". Though the ramen is in their "small" version, it was still a lot for me. The only thing I didn't like so much was the off taste of the chawan mushi. It was a tad bit too salty and fishy for my liking.
Small Ramen & Salmon and Prawn Sushi Set 510.00PHP or 11.80USD. Apparently, you can opt for komi tamago (soft boiled eggs) if you don't like chawan mushi. I wish I knew this! Like me, Ekai had a hard time polishing everything off. Don't worry, we brown bagged the leftovers and took it home :)
Pork Tonkatsu 250.00PHP or 5.79USD. This was a part of Yumi's order, I think. It was good but falls short of your expectations if compared with Yabu's Tonkatsu.
Chicken Gyoza 180.00PHP or 4.17USD. Mae's choice of viand paired with...
Sake Chahan (Grilled Salmon Fried Rice) P120.00PHP or 2.78USD. No idea how it tastes but it was very fragrant and looked yummy!
Shoyu Ramen 280.00PHP or 6.48USD for the small sized bowl. At this point, I honestly can't recall whose order this is, hahaha.
I had a great time spending one of my last bonding moments with my team mates, but if I could turn back time I would've picked a different place. Their price range is a bit steep but I guess justifiable since you do get a lot, but taste wise it just doesn't hit the spot for me. See you on my next pig out session. :)
