Sushi and I, we're like old buddies. We go way back my college days, when I was satisfied with the ready to eat variety from convenience stores and supermarkets. As I grew older, I'm glad my taste evolved. I now appreciate and practice "quality over quantity" and how else would I find out where my money's well spent than to get my sushi fix on?
Spicy Maguro Roll 285.00PHP or 6.49USD. Marinated soy sesame tuna, crispy tempura bits, spicy kochukaru mayonnaise rolled in black and yellow ebiko with roasted sesame dressing. Not exactly good for sharing, but it makes up for its shortcomings with its savory, rich and utterly heavenly flavor. There were a few good minutes of dead silence while our we were relishing these babies. Galit galit muna, gutom eh! Next time, I'd rather not share at all. :)
Shake Rayu Sashimi 375.00PHP or 8.54USD. Marinated salmon sashimi, topped with crispy tempura bits. I swear that if I didn't have a conscience, I would have polished this platter in seconds. My heart holds a special place for salmon and this dish has taken permanent residency.
Tenzaru Chasoba 310.00PHP or 7.06USD. Grean tea buckwheat flour soba noodles served with a side of tempura battered prawns and dipping sauce. Pardon the less than stellar photo, I really have a hard time shooting bento encased food. To be perfectly honest, it was my first time to try cold soba and I liked it! I finally get it when Japanese folks say that cold soba is perfect to be eaten during summer. Each slurp of noodles was refreshing, leaving a light trail of flavor compliments of the dipping sauce.
Ogetsu Hime's prices are a little on the steep side, so make sure to carry extra budget when dining here. Regardless of the price, I'll most definitely go back in a heart beat, or maybe I'll start saving up and try Jiro's three-star Michelin-awarded restaurant in Ginza, Tokyo? Next year around sakura blossom season, perhaps. That's the dream and until then, I'll just continue dreaming of sushi. See you on my next pig out session.
