It's always good to have a back-up plan, that's what will save your ass in case you get yourself into knee-deep trouble. Okay, I feel like I'm talking about something grave here, when I'm really just talking about dinner plans! We were pressed for time, but the queue at Kettle (Plan A) was crazy, so we had to abort and deviate to Italianni's ( ad-hoc Plan B).
Italian Truffle Fries 295.00PHP or 6.60USD. To start our dinner, we opted for a bowl of their truffle fries, but what we got were junk food thin potato "chips". Nevertheless, they were good enough to munch on before the mains.
Primavera Salad 450.00PHP or 10.06USD. "Mixed lettuce, lollo rosa, tomatoes tossed in raspberry vinaigrette topped with ricota fritters." Looking back, I wouldn't have paid so much for a salad with such measly serving. Yes, it was still good for sharing but talk about misleading menu photos!
Quattro Formaggio Pizza 550.00PHP or 12.30USD. We are all suckers for anything loaded with cheese, so we automatically gravitated towards ordering this. Their pizza tends to border on the thin crust side, which was fine by us. What made us felt let down, was the pizza's lack of cheesiness and flavor profile.
My palate failed to detect the combination of gorgonzola, goat cheese, mozzarella and taleggio! To be honest, it tasted only of mozzarella. I'm sorry if everything I've been saying seems so negative, but I'm just telling how it was.
Seafood Cioppino Pasta 925.00PHP or 20.69USD. The only order that resembled close to it's menu representation. This pasta was loaded with mussels, shrimps, clams, calamari and spaghetti in cioppino sauce. This is meant to be spicy, but you can order a non-spicy version if you prefer.
Four Cheese Penne Pasta 525.00PHP or 11.74USD. Because we were a rather large group, we got 2 orders of pasta just in case there was any food shortage. Does it look like a four cheese pasta to you? Yeah, we didn't think so either. It tasted like it had an identity crisis between being a carbonara and a four cheese penne, well the former won.
What is it with four cheese and Italianni's? I don't mind shelling out a few more bucks, but I would sure love it if I was getting my money's worth. I don't know if we just dined on an off day, or their serving portions had always been this deceiving. I wouldn't go back for a long, long time. Oh well, see you on my next pig out session! (Hopefully, at Kettle!)
